Camco supports Asia Pacific expansion with new hire

Camco is delighted to announce the appointment of renewable energy entrepreneur Paul Makumbe as the company’s Pacific regional director.

Paul assumes responsibility for the delivery of the TIDES platform, which uses a blended finance structure to provide local developers with flexible financing and efficiently deploy funding to projects. TIDES is focused on three key areas:

  1. Sustainable utility-scale projects: Grid-connected projects for large population centres.

  2. Renewable energy commercial and industrial (C&I) projects: Captive power solutions.

  3. Clean mini-grid projects: Creating solar and hybrid mini-grids for rural communities in remote outer islands to promote energy access and sustainable economic development.

Paul founded Sunergise International Limited, a vertically integrated renewable energy business operating in New Zealand and the Pacific, and before that was CEO of Oceanic Communications Limited, a telecommunications and distribution company that operates in New Zealand and the Pacific.

Alongside his role as regional director for the Pacific, Paul will also contribute to Camco’s overall business development and fund conceptualisation and formulation activities, including in operationalising and deploying Camco’s Spark C&I finance platform focused on Sub-Saharan Africa.

Geoff Sinclair, Managing Director at Camco, said: “Local understanding and networks are critical to Camco’s work and to fulfilling the TIDES platform potential to its full potential.

“Paul’s success in developing multiple businesses and partnering with government and DFIs in the region and his breadth of experience in the renewables sector makes him an ideal partner for Camco in the region.”
