Camco is honoured to be delivering a joint presentation on enhancing private participation in renewable energy financing at a meeting of Pacific islands energy officials next week.
The three-day Regional Energy Officials Meeting is being organised by the international development organisation, Pacific Community (formerly the South Pacific Commission), and starts on Tuesday. The overarching aim of the event is to prepare for the upcoming 5th Pacific Regional Energy and Transport Ministers Meeting.
Camco’s invitation to speak at the meeting comes as the company moves ahead with the TIDES blended finance platform for the Pacific, which Camco created last year to provide flexible financing to local renewable energy developers. TIDES’s goal is catalyse investment in zero-emissions projects across the full range of sizes, from mini-grids to large grid-connected systems.
Camco’s regional director for the Pacific, Paul Makumbe, will present alongside Pacific Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (PCREEE) at the meeting.
“Increasing the level of private participation in the region’s renewable energy financing is critical to islands’ clean energy transitions and meeting their climate targets, as it is for increasing communities’ resilience to the impacts of climate change,“ he said.
“Working with our friends at PCREE, we aim to highlight the challenges of enhancing private participation to the energy officials - and show what can and needs to be done to overcome them.”
Other topics being covered at next week’s meeting range from energy policy, planning and capacity development to low-carbon transport and improved energy efficiency. The event will also include country updates from Pacific island nations on their energy transition achievements over the last three years, and their plans for the next three.
